Wow, its been insane since I touched down from Florida. The trip did more for Bite Mark than I could ever explain, I've been knee deep in sorting out orders, new designs and generally keeping in touch with all of you that I've neglected the blog! Shocking I know, but rest assured there are loads of new Bite Mark tit bits and news coming your way!

Screamfest Booth Bitches!

ts been an amazing year for Bite Mark, I can't believe it was this time last year I had a load of not so great designs and a start of a clientbase. Now I'm finding it difficult to even sit down for 5 minutes without coming up with a new idea for a design or sorting out new orders.

Spooky Empire Horror Convention Day 2 - 18th October

Oct 26, 2008 by blakely |
After an evening of chasing up non existent parcels, I awoke in a surprisingly good mood. Zee and I dined on raspberry pop tarts and warm cups of tea and headed over to the Wyndham for our second day. Saturday was supposed to be the big day of trading and it didn't disappoint. Some of our customers from the previous day were rocking their Bite Mark tees and that gave me a huge boost of confidence!

There were tonnes of people hanging around in the hallway before the dealers room opened, (they were all the VIP pass holders) and they all poured in an hour before the public were allowed in. Straight of the bat we sold 15 tees! As people walked by the booths, they couldn't help but comment out loud about what you had to offer as a vendor. Positive and negative. Thankfully 99% of people who walked by our booth loved the tees and once they did a couple of laps around the room, would come back to pick a couple up. The only negative comment I received over the whole weekend was a drunk guy who only wanted to pay $5 for a tee. Being Scottish I can handle drunk people and casually shooed him away from the booth.

This was the first day I got to leave the booth and walk around the entire room to see what the vendors were offering. The Real Tampa Bay Ghostbusters stopped me and gave me a Peter Vakeman Physic test! I got 2 out of 5 right and got to check out the level of effort and detail these guys put into their costumes. They are available for hire for parties and charity events and even had the ooze packs from the second Ghostbusters movie! (I heart Vigo of Carpathia!) I was also fortunate to catch a glimpse of Beetlejuice too!

The Real Tampa Bay Ghostbusters and BeetleJuice!
I also met Julia Grosz who makes her own awesome jewellery at ResurrectionArts.com. A very funny and talented vendor who has a love for possoms. As she says "Life is no fun unless you have your finger up a possom's ass".

There were also other clothing vendors there and one caught my eye: Almightees. Almightees is an awesome line ran by Jordan Thompson who hand prints all his tees. It was great to find another down to earth vendor to chat screenprinting with. We did a trade and I picked up some great tees, amoungst them a Freddie tee! Check out his clothing line at his Almightees MySpace profile!

Once I got back to the booth, there was a small crowd forming and within 20 mins we sold 30 tees! I also got a call saying one of my parcels had appeared and it contained my hand gored bags. It was already into the early evening on Saturday when I got the news so I knew I couldn't go and pick them up in time. By the time the vendors room closed we had sold 63 t-shirts from 11am to 8pm and the next day we would have custom bags! Woo!

Apart from the excellent day in sales, the quality of costumes convention goers had on were amazing. I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil and saw tonnes of Umbrella soldiers.

Death also put in a rare appearance at my booth! I had watched his YouTube video of last years Screamfest convention for research and it was awesome to meet him in person.

Spooky Empire Horror Convention Day 1 - 17th October

Oct 20, 2008 by blakely |
Screamfest: Road to Wyndham

After a night of attaching labels and folding all the stock, I woke up around 9am to head over to Wyndham for 12pm. I have never sold at a craft fair let alone a convention, so the process was all very new. The vendors room was open from 11am - 5pm for dealers to set up and I headed through the main convention doors to check in with the organizers.

Screamfest: Vendors Pass

I was handed a white envelope with my vendor badges, free convention program and told my tables number and location. Trundling our suitcases full of stock behind us we made our way into a massive room and found our tables.

Screamfest: Setting Up At Wyndham

I had sent some stock, the back display and custom printed bags from Scotland via guaranteed delivery to arrive in Orlando on Friday. (They didn't arrive till Monday, a day AFTER the convention). I was gutted that I didn't have all the pieces to make my booth complete but in times like this, you need to improvise. Petey the awesome Spooky Empire organizer kindly sorted us out with some grid wall so I could at least hang up my banner and some shirts.

Screamfest: Usher Costumes

After cursing the hell out of Parcelforce, I started putting up our booth. The concept for the booth was to make it as bright, vibrant and welcoming as possible. No one can promote your brand better than yourself and I was going to introduce Bite Mark to the US with a bang. Zee and I had matching red cinema usher outfits, popcorn bowls with eyeball candy, red tablecloths, free stickers/flyers and all the tees laid out for people to see up close.

Screamfest: Free Stuff
Screamfest: Eyeball Candy

The booth took a short time to set up and across from us were Abyssmal Entertainment selling their movie, "Hoodoo for Voodoo", Z.E.D (Zombie Emergency Defence) who are an organization preparing for the zombie apocalypse, Edgar Medina a thai and yoga massager (awesome guy, even wore a kilt for us!), and Lix with the super nice vendor Jill. The doors opened at 5pm and I got a sale ten minutes in. The customer even recognised Bite Mark and asked if we had the "awesome zombie hoodie" with us. Even though we didn't she cleaned up with 3 tshirts!

Screamfest Booth Setup

Apparently the first day of a convention is meant to be a slow one so I put my sales woman mode into overdrive. Anyone that walked by I said hey, gave them a big smile and asked them to help themselves to free candy, stickers and flyers. At least whilst they were digging into some candy they could stop and look at our tees. This worked every time (who doesn't love free candy) and we sold 20 tees that day. I also printed out Win Free Stuff slips so that anyone could enter into a raffle to win 3 free Bite Mark tees. This would prove the best idea ever as 40 slips were filled out that day.

Screamfest: View From The Booth

The doors closed at 11pm and we didn't have time to hang out by the pool with other vendors as I had to chase up our parcels. We headed back to the hotel, I moaned at Parcelforce for an hour, watched some bad tv and went to bed to haul our asses up at 9am to begin selling at 11am.

Screamfest: Welcome to Orlando!

Hey guys! We have arrived in the land of Mickey, Oreo ice lollies and Spooky Empires Horror Weekend (i.e Screamfest)!!! After a long 19 hours travel, we checked into the Quality Inn and got into our room that looks like a mustard factory blew up on the walls.

Screamfest: Mustard Room

After 5 months of preparation, I can't believe the convention is only a day away. The hotel was just the right choice being only a two minute walk from the Wyndham. I have no idea what to expect over the next few days. Our booth is going to look awesome and thankfully 90% of it has made its way into the USA. I'm still waiting on our custom gored gift bags that I hand printed 250 of whilst watching various vlogs on AfterEllen.com and our two banner stands.

The convention is split over 3 days which translates into around 24 hours trading time. This is the first time Bite Mark has been at a major event selling our tees and the amount of stock to take was a huge question mark. Last year saw 11,000 people at the event with major horror stars such as Robert Englund (Freddie) and Kane Hodder.

Screamfest: Hotel Prep

Regardless, I have over 250 tees in all sizes (xs-xxl). Each one is limited edition and numbered individually out of 250, packed in a custom gored black gift bag with stickers/flyers and free eyeball candy. There will be other horror clothing companies there and I plan to just have a blast and meet new amazing customers.

Screamfest: Limited Edtion Tags

Also after the convention, I'm having a well deserved holiday. I'll be in Florida for one more week and heading to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights with a Frequent Fear Pass. Did I mention that I can go any Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday? Yep, done, done and done!

Screamfest: Die Happy Bundle

I have internet in our hotel room so feel free to email or drop messages on our MySpace profile. We are still processing orders however any made from the 14th Oct - 27th, will be slower than usual adding a week more shipping time.

Bite Mark Clothing Office

I've been crazy busy with preparation for the upcoming Screamfest Convention which is on Oct 17th - 19th in Orlando, Florida (go buy tickets if you are in the area!) I'm a huge believer in providing an exciting and memorable customer experience and the booth has been 4 months of hard work getting the theme/costumes/look just right. I'll be flying over to Florida a few days before the convention and shall be picking up last minute items to finish off the booth. I can't release any photos yet, its top secret....:D

Don't hesitate to drop by our table to say hello and pick up a couple of tees! I have changed the colourway of the Vamp tee to black especially for Screamfest, so check it out at our table. I'll be posting photos and video blogs from the event so be sure to check back to see how it went! I can't wait to meet other clothing vendors and awesome horror fans!

Oh The Horror Tees

The Horror in Technicolour line is selling very well and to keep the collectablity of our tees, I'll be releasing new designs in time for Christmas. You guys are amazing, thank you so much for all your support and love!

I'm rarely hand printing Bite Mark tees anymore apart from the Dead Walk The Earth Hoodie which is strictly limited to 150 pieces. If you find a Bite Mark tee with a hand sewn label on it, then you are in luck, as they are the last ones! The new tees all have screened labels inside the tee:

New Bite Mark Label

I can't believe its nearly a year since I started all of this and I'm so grateful to all the Bite Mark fans out there. I heart you!

The kinds folks over at Mammoth Printshop took over the printing reigns for Bite Mark and printed our Horror in Technicolour tees. They took some photos of the tees in production for us and they show the incredible amount of talent and effort it takes to reach the finished product.

Its awesome to see someone else do the printing for a change!
